Finding the right Clip Art

Searching the Clip Organiser to find the graphic you want can often take a long time.
There are a couple of ways you can help to narrow your search:
1) Changing the Which Collection drop-down. The default is to search all three collections.
2) Changing the Which File Types drop-down. The default is to search for all media files (inc. photos, video and sound).

Which Collections to search

There are three main collections in the Search in drop-down list.

My Collections - These are all the folders on your hard drive that contain graphics files. When you are asked if you want to catalogue your clips it is these graphics that will be catalogues.
Office Collections - These are all the folders that contain clip art that is provided by Microsoft Office.
Web Collections - This option will only appear if you are connected to the internet. These are all the locations on the Internet from which Office can pull clip art.
Each of these collections has a plus sign and a checkbox next to it.
Click the checkbox to select or deselect an entire collection or click the plus sign to expand the list and mark individual folders.
The complete collection of Microsoft clip art is also accessible from the Office Online website.
Searching the Web collection from within PowerPoint will automatically search all the clip art that is available from the web site.
The only reason to go to the Office Online website is to search using an attractive web based interface.

Which File Types to include

There are four categories in the drop-down list.

Clip Art -
Photographs -
Movies -
Sounds -
Each of the categories has a plus sign and a checkbox next to it.
Click the checkbox to select or deselect an entire category or click the plus sign to expand the list and mark individual file types.

Keywords and Wildcards

When you enter multiple keywords in the Search box PowerPoint will only display the clip art that have all the matching keywords.
It is possible to use the asterisk (*) wildcard to represent any number of characters.

Similar Styles

A lot of the Microsoft provided clip art (but not all) is categorised into styles.
A style is just a type of clip art image.
To locate all the clip art that is in a similar style select the clip art, press the right mouse button and select "Find Similar Style".
Remember that this is not available for all clip art.

For example the following items of clip art are all in the same style.
