This library is often described as a Bootstrap framework for Office, Office 365 and SharePoint.
The theme changes when the Office theme is changed in Office 2016 (not 2007, 2010 or 2013).

Different Packages

There are a number of different packages you can use to access the Fabric UI components.
The first iteration was released in August 2015 and was called Office UI Fabric.
This contained javascript components that used JQuery with CSS classes for the appearance and styling.
This package is no longer being updated and the last version was released in May 2016 (2.6.1) and

Office UI Fabric JavaScript + Core

The second iteration was released in August 2016 and was called Office UI Fabric JavaScript.
This version took the existing Office UI Fabric package (version 1) and split it into two independent packages.
The Office UI Fabric JavaScript package contained the existing javascript components that used JQuery.
The Office UI Fabric Core package contained all the CCS classes for the appearance and styling.
The last version of Office UI Fabric JavaScript was released in February 2017 (1.4.0) and this package is no longer being updated.


Office UI Fabric React + Core

The third iteration was released in January 2017 and was called Office UI Fabric React.
This package contains components written in React.


There are similar packages for AngularJS and iOS.
