Collective Noun - names for groups of people or things
10) What is the difference between a Proper Noun and a Pronoun ?
Proper Noun - very specific
Pronoun - general, less specific
11) How many different types of Pronouns are there ?
Personal - (them, we, they, you, it, he, she) - used when writing about ourselves or others
Possessive - (our, mine, his, hers, theres) - tells us who owns something
Relative - (that, which, who)
Reflexive - (myself, yourself, himself, ourselves)
Interrogative - (which, whose, whom, what, who)
Indefinite - (somebody, nobody, something, nothing, each)
12) What is a Verb ?
Usually refers to Main Verb.
A doing or being word.
Eg: I "read" comics
Eg: He "reads" comics
(a verb often changes depending on who is doing the action)
13) How many different types of Verbs are there ?
Modal Verb - shows certainty or possibility.
modal verbs are additional verbs which cannot be on there own (only with a main verb).
Eg: might, ought, shall, will, may, should, could, would, can, must
Active Verb - the main person or thing does the action
Passive Verb - the main person or thing has the action done to it
Powerful Verb - adds more interest to your writing
14) What is an Adverb ?
This is an Adjective + Verb
Is a word or phrase that describes a verb.
Eg: tonight, here, soon, surely, quickly
(time and place do not always have a "ly" ending)
15) What is a Proverb ?
A proverb is a short saying that gives advice or tells you something
16) What is an Adjective ?
A word that describes somebody or something.
A describing word / describes a noun
17) How many different types of Adjective are there ?
Comparative - compare 2 nouns
Superlative - compare more than 2 nouns

eg - My Granny (who is 99), lives in London
Relative Clause - can be used to give additional information about a noun.

A word used to link sentences, phrases and words.
A word that connects two main clauses together (and, if, so)
Eg: It was dark "when"
Eg: I wish I was still in bed "but"
Eg: I am early "because"
Eg: Dave shouted loudly "while"
Eg: "While" you're waiting, you can read a book
24) What is a Co-ordinating Conjunction ?
Eg: I tripped "and" twisted my ankle
Eg: I am allergic to coconuts "but" not to peanuts
25) What is a Subordinating Conjunction ?
Eg: I could not speak Italian "until" I began to have lessons.
Eg: I was running "because" I was late.

A group of words that acts as a unit.
