Binary File Format

Starting in Excel 2007 there was a large number of new file formats.
Most of these new file formats are for the new Open XML File Formats
There is however another new file format that was introduced called Binary File Format
This file format is often used when you have unusually large or complicated workbooks

The file format is optimised for performance in ways that are not possible with Open XML File Format
This file format is often abbrevaited to BIFF12 (Binary File Format Office 12)
This file format uses the same Open Packaging Convention used by the Open XML File Format and XPS
This file format is a zip container but instead of containing XML files it contains .bin instead
This file format will open and save faster than the Open XML File Formats
This file format is very similar to the xls file format in Excel 2003
