Version 3.0

Several changes have been made in version 3.0 to make DocTools CommentManager work with both classic comments, i.e. the comments known in several versions of Word, and modern comments that have been introduced by Microsoft in Word for Microsoft 365 in spring 2021.

Since modern comments have many restrictions compared to classic comments, it has been necessary to remove the commands for applying automatic numbering to comments - the formatting restrictions in modern comments prevent the numbers from being shown correctly. Also, the feature for displaying comments as in Word 2010 has been removed since recent changes implemented by Microsoft prevented it from working.

Word's built-in display options for comments have also been changed in versions with modern comments. Now, those commands differ depending on whether you have a Word version with classic comments or modern comments. Therefore, some of the commands found in previous versions of CommentManager that provided access to such commands have been removed.

The naming and organization of commands and menus in CommentManager have been adjusted to match the changes.

Two new options have been added to the Find/Filter feature in the Review Comments dialog box: Show unresolved and Show resolved.

If you have an earlier version of CommentManager, you can continue to use it. However, I recommend that you stop using the automatic numbering feature if you share documents with users who have a Word version with modern comments since the numbers will not appear correctly in documents opened in Word with modern comments. Also, you may have experienced that the feature for displaying comments as in Word 2010 has stopped working: This is caused by a Microsoft update and applies to misc. versions of Word - it does not harm using the command but it has no effect.
