Technical Questions


1) Do I need to have any particular trust center settings for the add-in to work ?
The source code is digitally signed so the add-in will work with any settings.
If the macro security is set to the highest level, you will need to add us to the list of trusted publishers.


2) Will this add-in interfere with any of the other add-ins that I have installed ?
This add-in has been designed to work completely independently of any other add-ins.
If you suspect there is a conflict and you are seeing unexpected behaviour, please contact us.
In this situation the first thing to do would be delete your Normal.dotx file and reopen Word.


3) How can I extract the changes ?
Open the document from which you want to extract tracked changes.
The document may be in any Word format (inc *.rtf).
No changes are made to the original document during the process.
The tracked changes in your document can be shown or hidden, it doesn't matter
Click Extract Changes on the ExtractChanges tab.
You can select from three extract types: Entire Document, Only selected content or only headers and footers
While data is examined and changes extracted, a progress bar will be shown on the screen. The information will be updated continuously so you can follow the progress.
When the extraction of data is finished, information about the extract is shown.


4) Can I stop the extract process before it has finished ?
You may sometimes want to stop the extract process before it has finished. To do this, click the Stop Process button in the dialog box with the progress bar:
The formatting of documents can be very complex. For example, documents converted from PDF may contain huge amounts of direct formatting, text boxes spread around and other items that may cause problems. During the extract of data from such documents, some operations may take some time, giving the impression that the process has stopped. Please give the process time.


5) Would it be possible to get a more customised version of this add-in ?
If you would like any new or modified functionality please contact us.
We will either include it in a future release or work directly with you to create a bespoke add-in just for you.


6) I think I have identified a bug, how can I report it ?
Please send us an email with a description and any useful instructions on how to reproduce it.


Cannot find STARTUP folder

If you are unable to see the startup folder it may be hidden.

No Add-ins were found

This message might appear if you try and use the "DocTools InstallationManager.docm" document before the files have been extracted from the zip file.
If you have opened the installation document directly from the zip file, extract the files and try again.
