Uniform Distribution
Also known as a Rectangular distribution
This is a continuous distribution.
Rectangular distribution where all the data is evenly spread.
The values of a uniform random variable are constant over an interval
A distribution is called uniform if all the outcomes are equally likely.
Another way of describing a uniform distribution is saying that all the outcomes have the same probability.
This is bounded between 0 and 1.
The PDF is flat
Discrete Data
A discrete uniform distribution has equal probability at eash of its n values.
A random variable is said to follow a uniform distribution with parameters a and b, written ???
if its probability distribution satisfies the following equation:
Example - Rolling a Dice
The results from rolling a dice is an example of a discrete uniform distribution
There are only 6 possible values and the probability is the same for each outcome (1/6 = 16.67%)
If buses run every 20 minutes and you arrive at the bus stop at random times the time you wait for the next bus to arrive could be discribed by a uniform distribution over the interval 0 to 20.
Continuous Data
A continuous random variable is said to follow a uniform distribution with parameters a and b, written ???
if its probability density function is constant within a finite interval [a,b] and zero outside the interval
Example - Random Number Generator
The results from generating a random number between 0 and 1 is an example of a continuous uniform distribution
Every number between 0 and 1 has an equal chance of appearing and there are an infinite number of them
